Abstract
As psychological issues among adolescents continue to rise, mental health issues among college students have also become a top priority in the moral work of universities. As a hot topic in recent educational reforms, course-based moral education encompasses political science course and all the other courses in the curriculum. The current research at home on the moral education of British and American literature class mainly focus on cross-cultural comparisons, the introduction of traditional Chinese culture and the online teaching methods of British and American literature, with few research on the moral education of reading and studying British and American literature itself. Therefore, this paper examines the shaping of students’ morality and values by the reading and study of British and American literature from the aspects of the guidance of students’ morality and the re-shaping of students’ mind by studying British and American literature, and the inspirations and aspirations that students draw from literary characters. Classic British and American literary works attract and nourish readers from different eras and cultural backgrounds with the “the true, the good, and the beautiful” they advocate, subtly shaping the readers' moral and value systems without their conscious awareness.
Key words: Moral education; Guidance of morality; Re-shaping of students' mind; Fictional characters
